1RM Calculator

Use a repeatable weight to estimate today's training baseline without chasing a risky max attempt.

Start here

Do not force a true max. Use a weight you can lift cleanly for 3 to 6 reps.

While training

When your form starts to break, stopping matters more than adding weight.

Why Estimate 1RM?

1RM is not just a number for chasing heavier lifts. It is a training baseline that helps you choose calmer, more repeatable loads.

A simple formula

Estimated 1RM = weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)

The Epley-style estimate uses only the weight lifted and the number of reps. For example, lifting 60 kg for 10 reps gives 60 × (1 + 10 ÷ 30), or about 80 kg.

Turtle Life also uses exercise-specific rep coefficients to show a practical 1-12RM load table.

Why calculate it?

Training by feel alone can push you too hard on a good day and break your form on a tired day.

An estimated 1RM lets you plan loads by percentage, such as 60%, 70%, or 80%, instead of guessing.

How should you calculate it?

The conservative approach is to estimate from a weight you can repeat with clean form, rather than testing a true one-rep max.

Very high rep counts can increase estimation error. A weight you can lift for about 3 to 6 clean reps is often more useful.

How should you use it?

Use the estimate to choose a training range for endurance, hypertrophy, or strength.

For example, endurance work can start around 50-60% of 1RM, while hypertrophy work often starts around 70-80%, adjusted by form and recovery.

For Turtle Life, the goal is not to lift heavier at any cost. The goal is to keep training long enough for it to support your life.

FAQ

Do I need to test a true 1RM?

No. If you train alone or your technique is still developing, estimating from repeated reps is the more conservative choice.

Which rep range should I use?

Avoid relying on very high reps. A clean 3 to 6 rep set is usually a better input for a practical estimate.

How does sharing work?

After calculation, the result link stores exercise, weight, reps, unit, and language in the URL. Turtle Life does not save your workout data on a server.
